Driver rescued from car by Burnham fire crews after crash at M5 services

A motorist was rushed to hospital after being rescued by Burnham-On-Sea firefighters on Thursday evening (March 14th). 

Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea, Taunton and Bridgwater were called to the northbound Sedgemoor Services at 9.20pm.

A fire spokesman said: “Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service received a call from the ambulance service requesting the fire service assistance at a road traffic collision at the M5 Sedgemoor Services.”

“Fire control immediately mobilised two fire engines from Burnham, one fire engine from Bridgwater, one duty officer and the heavy rescue tender from Taunton to attend this incident.”

“On arrival the incident commander confirmed one vehicle had left the carriageway and had collided with a tree resulting in one person trapped within the vehicle.”

“Firefighters worked alongside paramedics to create space using electrical cutting equipment, a glass saw, stabfast to stabilise the vehicle and a triple extension ladder to extricate the casualty from the vehicle.”

“The casualty was taken to hospital via a land ambulance.”
