Dozens of students at King Alfred School Academy in Highbridge have attended its first ever mental wellbeing coffee and cake event.
Around 70 people supported the event for drinks and home-baked cakes that had been made to help raise awareness of mental health.
The event, called Time To Talk, was a no-phone zone, and a chance to talk with peers, teachers and the team at support groups In Charley’s Memory and Somewhere House.
The academy says it puts big emphasis on mental wellbeing and a wide-ranging curriculum in order to promote self-esteem.
Izzy Simmons, 15, said: “It was a brilliant opportunity for young people to come together and a chance to open up to others about any possible ongoing problems students have.”
“There was no phones so it was like a small community just like things used to be, face to face. We would like to make this event more regular.”
