Burnham-On-Sea youngster Sam Lodge is desperate to raise almost £4,000 in order to get to the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, North America this summer.

Sam, 13, has been doing lots of charity and community work in order to try and raise enough money to be able to go and he says he is really grateful for the “amazing response” so far from members of the public.

Sam says: “If I complete the fundraising, I will be spending three weeks in America.”

“I’m sure there are going to be amazing activities such as white water rafting and rock climbing. I’ll also be spending a week with a Canadian family who I hope to get to know very well.”

“There will be 40,000 Scouts from around the world. I will be one of the youngest as we will be flying out on my 14th birthday.”

Sam adds: “I have to raise £3,995 and have been doing lots of jobs, including organising car boots and holding a bingo evening, to raise the funds.”

”I am thankful for joining 1st Burnham-on-Sea Scout Group as I would not have got this amazing opportunity without their help and support along the way. The Scout Leaders are amazing!”

The World Scout Jamboree is an opportunity to meet thousands of fellow Scouts from around the world and embrace different cultures and lifestyles, whilst building new friendships. Activities at the event include team building challenges and all kinds of outdoor activities.
