Speeding issues in Walrow, Highbridge to be discussed at public meeting tonight

-

A public meeting is being held in Highbridge tonight (Monday) to discuss speeding issues along Walrow and the possible creation of a new community speedwatch team.

Highbridge district councillor Roger Keen told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “For many months residents have expressed great concern regarding the speed of traffic passing along Walrow, and also the occasional flouting of the weight restriction on the railway bridge.”

“I have arranged for a meeting to be held at the Morland Hall, Pearce Drive Highbridge TA9 3FU at 7pm on Monday 18th Feb with PCSO Mike Shaw, who organises Community Speedwatch teams.”

“We have identified a safe area that is suitable for residents to carry out speed surveys etc.”

“Once we have identified enough people to form a team and someone who is willing to act as co-ordinator, then the Police will supply a speed gun and all the training and equipment needed.”

He added: “Those interested in forming a Walrow speed watch group then please come along on Monday evening and bring with you pen and paper and a laptop or smartphone if you have one.”

Last autumn, Cllr Janet Keen requested a police mobile speed camera be located at the Bennett Road end of Walrow at the commuter times morning and afternoon – and the group is awaiting data on speeding numbers.
