Syringes, medicine bottles and hundreds of plastic items were found washed up along Berrow beach during the latest beach clean on Saturday (February 9th).
Almost 50 volunteers braved high winds and heavy showers of rain to join the latest litter clean organised by the Friends of Berrow Beach.
While the group focussed on removing plastic rubbish, they were shocked to find several syringes and medicine bottles among the debris.
The group’s Honour Greenslade told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Another big ‘thank you’ goes to everyone who turned up for this month’s beach clean – there were about 50 of us on the beach, despite the weather.”
“A lot rubbish was collected, including many plastic cotton bud tubes, bottles and, worryingly, several syringes.”
“Thanks also go to Burnham Coastguard for sparing the time to help remove several bags of rubbish and other large items from the beach at the end.”
The Berrow group is led by Honour Greenslade, Sue Meads and Nigel Hoy with the support of Litter Free Coast and Sea Somerset.
