Burnham’s Mayor praises outgoing Town Clerk Tatiana Cant, who leaves this week

-

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s Town Clerk Tatiana Cant has this week been praised for her work by the Mayor.

Tatiana leaves the role at the end of this week and will be moving to Cornwall to be closer to her family and to take the Town Clerk’s position in Perranporth.

She began in her role in March 2017 and has overseen almost two years of busy activity that included last autumn’s Neighbourhood Plan referendum and a push for Burnham to be more environmentally friendly.

Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Tatiana said: “I have loved my time here – Burnham and Highbridge is a lovely community and I have made many friends.”

“I have enjoyed working with the plastic-free project, the Neighbourhood Plan, the Burnham Evolution project, and introducing various innovations at the council.”

“I’m sad to be going – the councillors here are great to work with – but I am also looking forward to moving to Cornwall.”

Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Mayor Cllr Bill Hancock told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Tatiana has done a fantastic job for both our towns. She has changed things for the better and been a really great and dedicated Town Clerk.”

“She has helped me no end in the role of Mayor over the past two years and I wish her all the luck for the future.”

Incoming Burnham and Highbridge Town Clerk Sam Winter was recently appointed and will formally begin her new role on Monday February 4th.

He added: “While we are sorry to see Tatiana leave, we are thrilled that Sam has taken on the role.”

“Sam is very knowledgeable and experienced and I’m sure that she will quickly pick up the reins and help us make real progress to the benefit of the community in both our towns.”

Sam has worked with parish and town councils since 2013 and was previously the Town Clerk at Shepton Mallet Town Council where she enjoyed success in delivering a number of high value projects to improve recreation and to benefit the social and economic regeneration of the town.

Sam is a qualified Clerk and law graduate, and until 2017 was the County Information Officer with the Somerset Association of Local Councils where she advised local councils in Somerset on the laws and procedures affecting the sector.

Sam, who lives with her husband and two children in Mark, said: “I am truly delighted to have been appointed Town Clerk to Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.”

“The parish is already important to my family as it’s where we shop, socialise and eat out. It’s a really exciting privilege to be given the opportunity to work for the continued improvement of the area.”
