Burnham-On-Sea carer Elaina Beard ‘died of catastrophic injuries’, inquest is told

-

A carer who worked in Burnham-On-Sea died in a crash on the M5 motorway as a result of her “catastrophic injuries”, an inquest has heard this week.

An inquest held at Taunton Coroners’ Court into the death of Elaina Beard, 29, was told that she was travelling on the M5 on February 9th last year when the crash occurred between Taunton and Wellington, as we reported here.

She was driving to work at 6.23am in a red Ford Ka on the inside lane before she steered into the central reservation. Her car was struck by two vehicles, before she got out of her vehicle and was then hit as she tried to cross the M5 carriageway.

The coroner said she sadly died at the scene as a result of her “catastrophic injuries”.

He said: “At approximately 6.23am on February 9, 2018, whilst northbound on the M5 motorway between junctions 25 and 26, Elaina Beard lost control of her motor car and causing it to collide with the central barrier.

Scores of tributes were paid to Elaina following the accident, including from colleagues at Bluebird Care in Burnham, where she worked.

Bluebird Care said in a statement: “Elaina took great pride in her work and put every effort into giving every one of our customers the care they deserved.”

“She was a passionate carer, who was much loved and respected. She lived and breathed what she did and will be incredibly missed by all of our staff.”
