Several syringes, a plastic kite and a 26 year-old crisp packet were among the unusual finds made during a beach clean in Burnham-On-Sea on Saturday morning (January 19th).
Dozens of residents gathered for Burnham’s first beach clean of 2019, organised by the Friends of Burnham Beach, as pictured here.
“We had a superb turnout with over 50 people, including eight children, who collected over 50 bags of waste,” one of the organisers, Mark Hollidge told Burnham-On-Sea.com.
“Amongst the more unusual discoveries was an ancient fire extinguisher, a car tyre and a few bread baskets. It makes you wonder where these things come from! A crisp packet marked with the date 1995 was also unearthed.”
“At the end we were all able to warm up with a cup of tea or coffee in the clubhouse at the sailing club. We thank the club for opening their facilities up to the Friends of Burnham Beach.”
The syringes were safely taken away for proper disposal. A jar containing dog poo bags was also found washed up among the debris.
