Burnham-On-Sea’s Ritz Social Club has unveiled a brand new community defibrillator in the heart of the town centre this week.
The life-saving equipment has been installed at the front of the Ritz Cinema and Ritz Social Club in Victoria Street.
Fundraising began in October 2018 to raise £1,500 for the defibrillator and a secure cabinet to make it available to the local community at all times.
Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Ritz Social Club manager Paul Hale said this week: “Following three months of fundraising and generous contributions from local businesses, the Ritz is very pleased to confirm the installation of a community defibrillator.”
“We were overwhelmed by the amount of support from local businesses when we decided to fundraise for this life-saving piece of equipment.”
“We were expecting to reach our target by Easter but due to the support from local business and our own members we were able to install the machine at the star of this year.”
“The machine is registered with the emergency services so if it is required when we are closed the code is made available to access the machine 24 hours a day.”
“The staff at The Ritz are first aid trained and are able to assist in the event of an emergency if the defibrillator is required.”
“We would like to thank the following for their generous contributions – Ritz Cinema, Stephen Lamb, Ardwyn Chandon accountants, Positive Wealth Creation, Eat Festivals, Buffs, Del Hicks, Burnham Mobility and Nick Tolley Photography.”
