Police have issued an appeal for witnesses after a woman was left with bruises to her face when she was attacked in an alleyway in Burnham-On-Sea’s Jaycroft Road on Sunday evening (December 9th).

The lady was walking home along the road’s alleyway when she was attacked by a man who punched her in the face. He also attempted grab her bag but was unsuccessful when she bravely fought back.

A Police spokeswoman told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Police are investigating after a 28-year-old woman was punched by a man who tried to steal her bag and mobile phone.”

“It happened at about 11.45pm on Sunday 9 December, as the woman was walking home from an evening out in Burnham.”

“As she walked along Jaycroft Road a man punched her in the face and tried to take her bag. She fought him off and ran home.”

“He was described as about 5ft 7ins tall, slim, wearing black clothes include a hood covering his face.”

“Anyone with information which could help police investigating this attempted robbery is asked to get in touch by calling 101 quoting reference 5218272817.”

The family of the lady say she has been left “shaken and bruised”. They have urged local people to be extra vigilant. “Do not walk home alone at night, I know a lot of Christmas parties are going on, please be careful,” said one of the relatives.
