Burnham-On-Sea’s ninth annual Christmas tree festival has opened in the town this weekend, with dozens of sparkling trees on display.

St Andrew’s Church is holding the popular festival, which is open to the public each day from 10am to 4pm (except Sundays). Visitors call in and enjoy the trees and a life-size crib scene. The Trees will be up until Twelfth Night.

A total of 38 local businesses and groups from across Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge have set up and decorated the trees with unique festive items.

A service to mark the opening was held on Saturday evening (December 8th), attended by many local people and led by Rev Richard Allen.

Those taking part this year are Moose International, Choral Society, M&F Carpets, Burnham Funeral Services, Positive Wealth Creation, The Star Prayer Tree, Christian Aid, Burnham and Highbridge Town Council, plus Our Lady and English Martyrs’ Church.

Others include: Vince Davey, For The Fallen, St Andrew’s Church Choir, Home Hardware, Baytree Upholstery, BoS Interiors, Lowe’s Barbers, Burnham Flower Club, Castlemills MOT Centre, Parkinsons Support, and Childrens Hospice South West.

There are also trees from St Andrew’s School, Music For The Memory, BARB Search & Rescue, Abbeyfield, Burnham Horticultural Society, Gemini Tae Kwon-do, Burnham-On-Sea.com, Food Bank, 3rd Thursday Group, Scott’s Furnishings, MNDA, U3A, Rotary Club, Burnham Infants School, 4th Burnham Brownies, St Andrew’s Youth SAY, Round Tower Guesthouse and St Andrew’s Church.

The vicar of St Andrew’s, the Rev Graham Witts, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Christmas tree festival began in 2008 when our nation was faced with an economic downturn and the trees were meant to cheer people up. The festival has grown from those first thirteen trees to over almost 40 this year.”
