Burnham-On-Sea’s ninth Christmas tree festival will open in the town this weekend, with dozens of sparkling trees on display for a fortnight.
St Andrew’s Church is holding the popular festival, which will be open to the public each day to Christmas.
Local businesses and groups from across Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge have set up and decorated their trees with unique items according to different themes.
This year there are over 35 trees being decorated by various groups, firms and organisation from across the community.
Alongside the Christmas trees is a life-size stable which this year has had a makeover –Â and this year – a roof!
During these weeks of preparation for Christmas three life size Wise Men making their way through the Church to the Stable.
The Christmas Tree Festival and Crib Scene will be dedicated at a family friendly service this coming Saturday at 6.00pm, and everyone is welcome to come along and join in.
On Monday the mood changes and there is to be a special Light up a life Service in support of the work of St Margaret’s Hospice. All are invited and especially those who have been affected by the death of a loved one in the past. As usual there will be readings, carols and a chance to light a candle in memory of those ‘we love but no longer see’. The Light Up a Life service commences at 7pm.
On Sunday 16th at 6pm there will be a Carol Service for the Town which this year includes a Somerset Carol – ‘Come you worthy Gentlemen’ which the Victorian Folk song collector Cyril Sharpe heard being sung in Bridgwater. The church will be joined by the choir of St Andrew’s School.
