Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Poppy Appeal raised huge total of £30,194 in a fortnight

-

A huge total of £30,194 has been raised by generous Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge residents for the Royal British Legion during the annual Poppy Appeal, it has been announced this week.

Generous residents across the Burnham-On-Sea area dug deep to donate to the appeal by buying thousands of poppies.

Organiser Ruth Crosby, pictured above, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Burnham and Highbridge residents have done themselves proud.”

“The money collected to date this year has reached a superb total of £30,194.80 which is up on last year by over £3,000.”

“To have collected such a huge amount in a fortnight is incredible. We are all delighted and a big thank you goes to everyone who donated and supported us.”

“We’d like to thank all all our wonderful volunteer collectors who gave their time to sell poppies for us this year.”

“A special thank you also goes to Burnham-On-Sea Rotary Club for all their work in collecting at Lidl in Burnham, plus our cadet services – army, sea, and air – for all their time in local supermarkets, the Carnival night collectors, Burnham Food Festival and the local shops where poppies were sold.”

This year’s Poppy Appeal was extra special given that the 100th anniversary of WW1 was marked across the Burnham-On-Sea area and the Poppy Of Honour visiting Burnham-On-Sea, as pictured here.

She added: “A lot of time goes into planning this each year by many people, but it is clearly very much worth it and we thank everyone for their support. It’s a super figure that shows the strong support that continues for the Poppy Appeal.”

Last year, the Poppy appeal in Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge raised £27,000.
