In recent years, other railway items installed in Burnham include a set of railway buffers, a station name board, a signal, information board, and a rail-themed weather vane.
“It’s hoped that the new signal box will be used as a pop-up shop selling charity or community group items such as tombola tickets, theatre tickets, programmes, flags, poppy wreaths, wood turning items, cards, crafts, paintings, portraits, books and games,” said a spokesperson.
Those interested should contact Burnham and Highbridge Town Council on 01278 788088.
The council has placed several terms and conditions on the use of the signal box. These are that the key for the signal box is to be collected from the Town Council Offices during office hours and returned as soon as practicably possible at the end of the hire period.
Items on the inventory list from the signal box must not be removed, the facilities must be left secure, no candles or naked flames are allowed. Any damage, breakages or faults must be reported to the council. There is no electric or heat supply available.
