Thousands of people lined Burnham’s seafront on Sunday evening to watch a spectacular fireworks display that started the town’s carnival festivities.
An estimated crowd of over 5,000 people crowded The Esplanade and neighbouring streets to watch a sparking 25-minute display, which was fired from a special platform on the town’s jetty.
Over 2,000 sparkling shots soared into the air above the beach, accompanied by modern music from the past three decades.
Mayor Cllr Bill Hancock told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It was a fantastic display and it was great to see such large crowds enjoying it.”
“Despite the rain earlier in the day, the weather stayed dry and this year the wind was not an issue.”
“The Town Council thanks the collectors from the Rotary Club and the cadet groups, all the marshalls, and the sponsors who were Beachside Holiday Park, Positive Wealth Creation, Highbridge Caravan Centre, Newcombe Caravan Park, Bay View Cafe, Northam Farm, Victoria Hotel and the Round Tower Guest House.”
This year’s display was overseen by Skyburst Illuminations and its spokesman said the display had run successfully.
Town Council Clerk Tatiana Cant added: “We are delighted it all went so smoothly following a year of planning with the marshalls and Skyburst to ensure we had improved a sound system in place along the seafront and better crowd management.”
The display is organised each year by the Town Council in the run-up to Monday’s Burnham-On-Sea Carnival.
Burnham’s Hillview Carnival Club got off to a great start at Bridgwater Carnival on Saturday, finishing in second place in its category.
