Burnham-On-Sea firefighters were called out to tackle a fire in a bedroom at a house near Axbridge on Thursday evening (November 1st).
Three crews from Cheddar and Burnham were sent to East End in Weare near Axbridge at 7.20pm.
“Three fire appliances were mobilised following a call from the occupant of a property, reporting a large amount of smoke in one of their bedrooms and that they were in the process of evacuating at the time of call,” said a spokesman.
“Shortly after the first crew from Cheddar arrived on scene and entered the property to investigate, they confirmed this was a fire in the rear bedroom of a semi-detached property.”
“Both the property involved, and the neighbouring property, had been evacuated and all persons were accounted for.”
At 7.50pm crews confirmed that all utilities had been isolated and that they were in the process of stripping back the area affected by fire with small tools.
The fire was confirmed to be an electrical fire under the floorboards of the first floor bedroom.
Crews made steady progress and by 8.17pm had the incident under control.
“The fire, which started accidentally, was extinguished by four breathing apparatus wearers using a hose reel jet, a thermal imaging camera and small tools,” added the spokesman.
“The effected floorboards were stripped back, cut away and removed, and once crews were satisfied that there were no hotspots, made the area safe before handing duty of care over to the owner. There were no casualties.”
