New World Paper Plane Champion is crowned in Burnham-On-Sea!

-

A new World Paper Aeroplane Champion was crowned in Burnham-On-Sea at the weekend when the successful event returned to the town centre.

Hundreds of Burnham-On-Sea residents and visitors got a chance to take part in the fourth annual championships on Sunday when they were held in the High Street. The event had been rearranged after bad weather postponed it in August.

The free-to-enter event was organised by Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade with the help of event specialists Wacky Nation and Sedgemoor District Council with the intention of bringing more people into the town centre to promote Burnham’s shops and businesses.

The champion’s trophy and cash prize for the longest flight of the day was won by Andrew Nicholson from Truro who left it till the last minute to win, by beating the current championship record with a stunning distance of 34.3m.

There were also scores of golden pilot’s badges prizes won through the day for those who landed their planes in a lucky yellow square in the street.

A Chamber of Trade spokesman said: “This is the fourth time the event has been held here in Burnham to encourage more people into our town centre and promote our range of shops and businesses – and it was well supported once again. We had a lot of families taking part through the day and our congratulations go to Andrew on his win.”
