Burnham police issue warning after £3,000 car wheels stolen

Police in Burnham are warning residents to be on their guard after high specification wheels were stolen from a BMW in Brent Knoll.

At around 11pm on Wednesday, March 2, 2005, the BMW X5 vehicle had three of its four wheels stolen while parked on a driveway in Burton Road.

The 20-inch alloys are believed to be valued at more than £3,000 and are very unusual as most X5’s have 19-inch wheels.

It is believed the theft may be linked to a woman who was seen earlier in the village on the same day knocking on residents’ doors and asking about the age and value of their cars.

The woman said she was conducting a ‘survey’, but it is believed she may have been looking to target high value vehicles.

She is described as a white woman in her early 30s who was wearing lots of make up and large earrings.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the attack on the BMW, may have been offered the wheels for sale or may recognise the suspicious woman.

Anyone being asked details of their vehicle by a cold caller should not divulge anything and call police.

Anyone who can help should contact the police using the Crimestoppers contact form.
