A turbo-charged power boat worth £30,000 was put through its paces in Burnham Bay this week, giving its crew a chance to brush up their skills before competing in the UK’s national power boat championships.

Andy Twemlow and Lyndon BakerWalkers along Burnham seafront were captivated by the 200 horse power craft speeding through the water at up to 65mph.

Pilot Andy Twemlow and navigator Lyndon Baker (pictured) are both residents of Burnham and were practising for this year’s National Offshore Power Boating Championships.

Andy finished ninth in the UK standings of last year’s two litre category; a result that he was understandably delighted with, but he hopes to perform even better this summer in the Rib Racing class.

Lyndon added that the trial had demonstrated that the custom-made powerboat – which has a top speed of 80mph – is on target to perform well when the pair compete at Torquay in late May, their first race of the season.

He told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We had a few minor problems with our trailer, but the boat itself is performing well and we’re looking forward to a successful season over the next four to five months.”

Their next training launch will be in Exmouth later in April.
