Hovercraft crew assist Coastguard and Police in retrieving body


Burnham-On-Sea’s hovercraft crew have helped the Police and Coastguard retrieve the body of an elderly man from a pond in the town.

During the joint operation at Hunts Pond in Burnham, the Coastguard asked BARB – the organisation that runs the Burnham hovercraft – to assist in the retrieval by providing its inshore rescue craft.

A Police spokeswoman said: “Police were called to the Rectory Drive area of Burnham shortly after 7.45pm last night, April 21st, after reports of a body being seen in a nearby lake.”

The spokeswoman added: “Police worked with the coastguard to recover the body. The death is not being treated as suspicious and the case is now in the hands of the coroner.”
