New sea safety guide unveiled for Bridgwater Bay users

A new safety guide for boat owners, jet skiers and anglers who use Bridgwater Bay has been released by Sedgemoor District Council.

The document – called ‘Bridgwater Bay & the Parrett Estuary: A Code of Practice & Information for Small Craft Users’ – provides a wide range of essential safety advice.

Harbour Master Peter Lee told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It has been drawn up to promote safe use of the waters of Bridgwater Bay and the Parrett Estuary, particularly off Burnham-On-Sea.”

It mentions tidal information, byelaws and regulations, the importance of maintaining slow speeds, safety for different types of sea users, and the correct use of Burnham’s jetty.

The document is available to download free of charge here and paper copies are available from Burnham Tourist Information Centre on The Esplanade.

The guide was written in conjunction with a dozen different local groups and organisations, including the Coastguard, BARB and RNLI, plus angling groups, Burnham Boat Owners Group, Burnham Motor Boat & Sailing Club, Combwich Cruising Club, English Nature, Hinkley Point Sailing Club, Royal Yachting Association and the UK Jet Ski Association.
