Hot weather draws large crowds to Burnham’s Folk In The Park
Dozens of folk music enthusiasts descended on Burnham-On-Sea on Sunday (June 19th) for the town’s annual Folk In The Park concert.
The crowds gathered in The Manor Gardens to enjoy a sweltering afternoon of summer weather and an equally superb line-up of foot-tapping tunes.
A large number of families supported the popular event, with some eating picnics under the cooling shade of the trees while others simply came along to listen to the various acts who played for several hours.
Many of the musicians are members of Burnham’s popular Ritz Acoustic Club, which meets weekly at the town’s Ritz Social Club. Groups who played included Gasoline, The Boys From Melbourne Street, Steve Brown, Dave Wright, Nigel Snook, The Jockstrap Ensemble, Gary Day and Dave Chave. Sound for the event was overseen by GC Music.
CADS (Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Cultural Arts and Development Society) organises three of four free events a year for the benefit of the people in both towns – and Folk In The Park was just one of these.
The next event is ‘Picnic in the Park’ on July 17th with the Ver-o-Neka Big Band and the Rivertones, a male Barbershop Chorus group from Taunton, plus the Pillowell Silver Band who were the West of England Fourth Section Champions in 2004.
The following event, Jazz in the Park, will be held on Sunday September 4th and will comprise of three or four well known Jazz bands. All events are held in the Manor Gardens and entry is free.
