Burnham-On-Sea schoolchildren make a visit to town’s RNLI station

Pupils from St John’s School in Burnham-On-Sea visited the town’s RNLI station this week, where they met some of the crew and heard about the life-saving work they undertake.

The children are shown besides the Thomas Jefferson, the station’s D-class lifeboat, where they learnt how the craft is launched and operated.

They listened to a talk about lifeboat history given by Chairman Tony Winterburn, and a lifeboat crew member told them all about the various items of safety equipment in use.

RNLI tractor driver Ricky Holmes was also on hand to tell the children all about the expensive launching tractors.
