80 Burnham homes lose power after car crashes into pylon

Power was cut to dozens of homes on the outskirts of Burnham-On-Sea this week when a car crashed into an electricity pole, bringing down cables.

Police were called to the scene between Highbridge Caravan Sales and the Alstone Road turning at 9.16pm on Tuesday January 17th after the vehicle spun off the road and collided with a pylon.

More than 80 households in the area were plunged into darkness for up to three hours while Western Power Distribution worked to restore power.

Police cleared away a large amount of debris left on the road and also diverted traffic around the scene.

A police spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com that it was not believed the driver had been seriously injured.
