Motorist rushed to hospital by air ambulance after accident
A 21-year-old motorist was rushed to hospital by air ambulance on Monday morning (January 30th) with back and hip injuries after an accident near Burnham-On-Sea.
Fire crews from Burnham and Glastonbury were called to Harp Lane, near the Fox and Goose restaurant, on the outskirts of Burnham and Brent Knoll.
The lady was released from her car by the crews after becoming trapped and then conveyed to hospital by helicopter.
Air ambulance paramedic Phil Waites, who was at the scene, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The casualty was suffering from back and hip injuries and although her condition was not life-threatening, the air ambulance was requested to get her to Weston General Hospital as fast as possible.”
Police spokeswoman Kerry Doyle added: “We were contacted at 9am after the car went off the road and into a ditch. The motorist had been travelling from Weston to Mark at the time.”
The road was closed for almost three hours while emergency services dealt with the incident.
Weather conditions were bitterly cold at the time and ice on the road could have been a contributory factor.
