Nine companies interested in Burnham-On-Sea swimming pool

-

Nine national companies have expressed an interest in taking over Burnham-On-Sea’s swimming pool – raising hopes that the facility will be saved.

Much to the delight of local people who use the Berrow Road pool, the companies have come forward following Sedgemoor District Council’s decision to place an advert in a leisure industry magazine to see whether a new owner could be found.

This week, Council Leisure Manager Nigel Roderick confirmed the good news and said the intention is to narrow down the list of nine companies to five after assessing them on quality.

“We need to find out if these companies are capable of managing the pool and what level of investment they are willing to make,” he added.

The news comes after the future of the 30-year-old pool has been hanging in the balance for several months.

Extensive maintenance work is needed to bring the facilities and changing rooms up to modern standards and if a new owner cannot be found, the building could be rebuilt or the site sold off.

Last month, we reported how 101-year-old Flo Long joined the campaign the facility open.
