Burnham-On-Sea’s new Manor Garden lights to be launched next week

-

An £18,000 project to introduce new lighting in Burnham-On-Sea’s Manor Gardens (pictured) has been completed – and an event to mark the milestone is to be held on Friday February 24th.

One of the new lights installed in Burnham's Manor GardensTen Victorian-style lamps now illuminate the whole of the footway around the garden and the band stand, providing proper lighting for visitors to the gardens in the evenings.

The lights are operated by a photo-sensor system, lighting up when the daylight fades and turning off during the night to ensure electricity costs are kept to a bare minimum.

The scheme was a joint project between Burnham’s regeneration group, the town council, district council and police.

The work began in October last year, when cables were set in the ground and all the lamp-posts and lanterns were installed and operational in November.

Now that the painting of the lamp-posts has been completed, key representatives from the organisations will inspect the lamps at a brief ceremony on February 24th at 4pm.

The project was identified in the Community Strategic Plan in September 2003 and taken forward and co-ordinated by the Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge Regeneration Partnership working in close co-operation with the other organisations. All partners contributed significant funds to cover the £18,000 costs.
