A swan is soon to be sent on its way after receiving treatment from Secret World Wildlife Rescue near Burnham-On-Sea.
Secret World was alerted to the plight of the bird after a member of the public found it distressed and hungry at Portishead Nature Reserve.
The charity found a large lump in the swan’s throat that was preventing it from swallowing food. The lump, which was a mix of mud and grass, was successfully removed by animal carers.
Laura Benfield, Head of Animal Care at Secret World, said: “Without the intervention from the member of the public and by our animal care team, this swan would have simply starved.”
The swan will be kept under the care of Secret World staff until it is ready to be released back at Portishead Nature Reserve where it was found.
