Poor state of Burnham-On-Sea beach in focus after high tides

-

The poor condition of Burnham-On-Sea’s beach is again in the spotlight this week after large amounts of sand were washed away by high tides from around the town’s pier.

Rocks, concrete and metal objects have emerged in the beach following a week of high tides.

Sedgemoor District Council, which maintains the beach, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “A team from Clean Surrounds went down and cleared what they could with the equipment that we have.”

“It will always be an going issue every year we clear a lot of rubble and concrete that has been washed up/exposed by the tides.”

“Unfortunately the tides often reveal more concrete, so it does look like nothing has been done.”

“We need to be especially careful around the Pavilion as the concrete may be part of the foundations. We will go down again to see if there is anything else we can remove.”
