Burnham-On-Sea’s Our Lady and The English Martyrs church is having a major refurbishment of its car park at the end of this month.
The ’round church’ in Highbridge Road will see the area around the building flattened and re-tarmacked.
The present site has not been re-laid for over 30 years and has many potholes plus the raised concrete foundations of the old temporary Youth Club building.
As well as parishioners, the Car Park is used by community groups including the Parkinsons UK local branch.
The main users of the car park are the parents of pupils at St Joseph’s School, who have also contributed to the costs of the work.
A spokesperson told Burnham-on-Sea.com: “The car park, which is private, will be closed from the afternoon of Sunday 23rd September until Sunday 30th September.”
“This will cause some disruption at school opening and closing times, but unfortunately the work could not be carried out in holiday time. The footpath, from Highbridge Road to Marine Drive, will be closed from Wednesday until Friday of that week.”
The work is being funded with a grant from Viridor Credits Landfill Community Fund.
