Birthday donation for Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat station

A generous RNLI enthusiast has marked his 65th birthday by handing over hundreds of pounds to Burnham-On-Sea lifeboat station this week.

John Swayne is a paid-up governor of the charity and decided that to present donations to the RNLI in lieu of presents.

The end result was an envelope of cheques to the value of £300, which were handed over to Burnham RNLI Operations Manager Ricky Holmes.

John, who lives in North Petherton, said: "I was brought up by the sea in Exmouth and have supported the RNLI ever since I started work."

Mr Holmes thanked John for his generosity and presented John with a mounted picture of Burnham's lifeboats as a gesture of thanks.

He said: "This money will go towards training our volunteer lifeboat crewmembers at Burnham."
