Lorry crash and car fire cause delays for motorists in Burnham-On-Sea area

-

Motorists faced long delays in the Burnham-On-Sea area on Monday (May 13th) following a fatal lorry crash on the A370, a multi-vehicle M5 crash and a car blaze.

The A370 between Burnham and Weston was closed following a serious collision involving a lorry at Lympsham in which a motorist sadly died.

It comes after disruption on the M5 earlier in the day following a multi-vehicle crash near Clevedon that led to 90-minute tailbacks stretching back to Burnham.

Burnham-On-Sea firefighters were also called out to tackle a car fire on the M5 northbound carriageway that left a car gutted and set a hedge alight. Fire crews were called at 12.40pm.

“Fire Control received numerous calls to a car fire on the motorway. Two appliances from Burnham-On-Sea were sent,” a fire spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Firefighters dealt with a car well alight on the hard shoulder using a compressed air foam jet, and two breathing apparatus.”

“The fire also spread to hedgerow and one hose reel was deployed to extinguish.”

Eyewitnesses said the car was left severely damaged by the blaze.
