Burnham-On-Sea then and now: Historian to explore town's changes

A unique history talk will explore how Burnham-On-Sea has changed over the years.

Local historian John Strickland is to give an illustrated talk called 'Burnham: Then and Now' later this month, accompanied by old and new photos.

"Using old photos of Burnham, he will show the audience which parts of the town have changed the most over the years - and those that have escaped the test of the time," said a spokesman.

The talk will be held on Wednesday April 25th at 7pm in Burnham-On-Sea Methodist Church in College Street. Tickets are priced at £5 from 01278 784204 in aid of church funds.

The photos will include the North Esplanade, pictured here at the top of this page, where the shelter has been built on a strip of land at the top of the Seaview Road which was previously a beach area. Take note as well of the differing styles of bus!

In the picture below, at the junction of Burnham's North Esplanade and Pier Street, the old Marine Lake is seen on the beach while the wider seafront in the modern photo on the right includes the Bay View Cafe.
