Burnham-On-Sea fire crews called to thatched property blaze

Burnham-On-Sea firefighters were among 12 crews from across Somerset tackling a thatched property blaze on Wednesday evening (February 28th).

Twelve fire crews were sent to the scene near Bruton where the roof of a thatched property went up in flames at 4.45pm.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "We received multiple calls to a fire on the B3081."

"Eight fire appliances were sent from Wincanton, Castle Cary, Shepton Mallet, Gillingham, Frome and Sherborne."

"A water carrier and an aerial ladder platform from Yeovil were also sent to the scene, along with crews from Street, Wellington, Martock, Warminster and a welfare unit from Burnham-On-Sea."

At two minutes past five the fire service reports that all persons were accounted for from the property.

The spokesperson added: "The roof was 50% alight, road closures were requested by crews on scene."
