Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge libraries are inviting children to become Mischief Makers for a Summer Reading Challenge that celebrates the 80th anniversary of The Beano.

Starting in libraries from today (Saturday, 14th July), all children have to do is visit one of the libraries and sign up to read six books throughout the summer.

As they read each book, they will receive special stickers to help complete a Mischief Makers poster and discover a hidden treasure.

Everyone who completes the challenge by reading their six books will receive a certificate and a unique Summer Reading Challenge Medal.

Cllr David Hall, Somerset County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for libraries, said: “This is a great opportunity for children and young people to further their reading skills in a fun and engaging way, and I would encourage all parents and carers to get their children involved if they can.”

Young readers can go onto the official website to create a profile, chat about books, and play games.

The Summer Reading Challenge is free to join and runs from Saturday 14th July until Saturday 8th September.
