Burnham-On-Sea seafront to get £55,000 upgrade for summer season

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s seafront is to be given a £55,000 upgrade before the start of the summer holiday season, it has been announced this week.

Sedgemoor District Council is investing £55,000 in improving facilities such as public toilets, shelters and showers along The Esplanade.

Claire Faun, council spokeswoman, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Phase one, starting by the end of month, will see scaffolding going up around shelters on the South Esplanade, beginning at the Yacht club end, to repair and paint the shelters. Each shelter will be done individually so that two shelters will always be available.”

“In phase two, the same will happen with the three shelters along the North Esplanade, starting at the Seaview Road end. Each shelter will be done individually so that two shelters will always be available.”

She added: “The external showers and foot washes at The Esplanade toilets will be replaced.”

“This will mean that the ladies toilet will be closed for a couple of days whilst workmen access the pipework which is in the internal walls. There will be replacement portaloos provided during his time.”

“There are also minor repairs to the lifeguard hut and TIC toilets, painting and repair works to the Pier Street bus shelter.”

“We are also planning works to refurbish the Victoria Street shelter, Apex Park toilets/rangers hut and we are awaiting pricing and timescales.”

A Burnham-On-Sea Chamber of Trade spokesman said the funding is “a welcome and well-timed boost that will help give the seafront an uplift ahead of the start to the busy holiday season.”
