-

Budding young chefs from across the south west gathered in Highbridge on Saturday (February 2nd) to take part in the regional finals of the UK Rotary Young Chef Competition.

The event, held at King Alfred School, saw eight youngsters donning their aprons to take part.

Each of the entrants had to cook a three-course healthy and balanced meal in two hours using a maximum budget of £15.

Burnham-On-Sea’s Izaak Strong was among the entrants, accompanied by Peter Strong, pictured above. His lamb kofta curry impressed the judges.

Others included Olivia Lovell of Dorchester, Lottie Gordon of Wells, Eloisa Lloyd of Yeovil, Beth Wharton of Taunton, Phoebe Stroud of Westbury, Harrison Damon of Devizes, Eleanor Penny of Crewkerne.

One of the judges, Kevin Smokcum, who has assessed the entries for the past 12 years of the Rotary competitions, said the standard was “superb”.

And Phil Parker, district organiser, added: “The quality of entries really was excellent this year – the standard gets better every year and I congratulate all the entrants.”

The winners were Olivia Lovell, Eloisa Lloyd and Eleanor Penny who go through to the next round, pictured with Phil Parker below.
