250
homes lose power in Brean after 'huge blue flash' in the sky
Hundreds
of homes in Brean were without power on Sunday evening (April 8th)
following a 'huge blue flash' in the sky.
The
power cut started in the village just before 8.30pm, confirmed Western
Power Distribution, plunging homes and several pubs into darkness
for almost an hour.
Talking
to Burnham-On-Sea.com, a Western Power spokesman said: "We
had 250 customers without power."
He
added: "We believe this could have been due to a swan striking
a line at our nearby primary sub-station."
Brean
beachwarden Dave Furber said "a huge blue flash was seen in
the direction of Lympsham" when the power cut began.
Meanwhile,
Western Power also worked to resolve a separate issue in Burnham-On-Sea,
near Southern Lea Road, during Sunday where around 70 properties
were without power due to a low-voltage issue.
The
company apologised to customers for the inconvenience and disruption.
