Burnham-On-Sea wildlife carers nurse poorly swan back to good health

-

Burnham-On-Sea wildlife carers at Secret World Wildlife Rescue in East Huntspill have rescued a poorly swan after it was found collapsed on a path near Bawdrip.

The swan was brought to Secret World’s centre in East Huntspill by one of their response drivers, Graeme Thompson.

Animal carer Sarah Tingvoll, who assessed the bird on arrival, said: “The swan had no obvious injuries so was given supportive care and transferred to a water tank for some rest.”

“Around 60% of admitted water birds brought into Secret World’s centre are injured by discarded fishing tackle, an issue caused by those irresponsible with their waste.”

Swans are among the largest birds that are cared for at Secret World. Although people tend to be scared of swans, they are one of the favourites to feed at local ponds and lakes.

The swan will continue his recovery in the centre’s water paddock for the final stage of rehabilitation, before being released back into the wild.
