A Burnham-On-Sea public play area is set to be given a £8,000 upgrade by Sedgemoor District Council this autumn.

Crosses Penn play area, which is located in Westfield Road next to Burnham’s Manor Gardens, will get new modern play equipment valued at £8,080.

Claire Faun, a spokeswoman for Sedgemoor District Council, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “Crosses Pen is a very popular play area which is now set to benefit from further investment next month.”

“The existing swing frame dates back to the 1990s and has reached the end of its life and will be removed and replaced with a modern alternative consisting of two flat seats, one toddler seat and one parent and child seat.”

“New safety surfacing will also be provided under the new equipment. Works are expected to commence on Monday 3rd September and last for two weeks, subject to favourable weather conditions.”

Scott Mason, Parks Development Team Leader, added: “The new parent and child seat will be the second of this type installed within Burnham and Highbridge following a successful trial at Apex Park which began in November 2017.”

“The swing seat promotes interaction and communication between generations whilst having fun.”

Removal works will be carried out by Sedgemoor’s Clean Surroundings service and the equipment is being funded from RLT2 developer contributions for play.
