A crew from Burnham-On-Sea’s BARB Search & Rescue was called out to help the driver of this mobility scooter after it became stuck in mud on the town’s beach on Tuesday (April 17th).

BARB was called out by the beach warden just after 1pm when the mobility scooter got into difficulty to the south of the jetty.

“The driver had got into difficulties whilst following his dog across the beach and then drove across a soft spot of mud,” said BARB Operations Manager Mike Lowe.

“After liasing with both the beach warden and the Coastguard control room it was confirmed that no persons were in danger and we then proceeded to help the gentleman retrieve his scooter and wash it clean for him.”

“The gentleman was unfortunate on this occasion, as he was high up the beach. This highlights once again the changing environment along our coastline.”

“The man thanked the team and was very grateful for BARB’s assistance and will be making a donation to the charity.”

BARB’s volunteers are available 24 hours a day – phone 999 and ask for the Coastguard if you are in difficulty.
