High-end Mercedes stranded on Brean beach and covered by tide

-

Burnham-On-Sea Coastguards and BARB Search & Rescue were called out to Brean beach on Saturday evening (April 21st) after this high-end Mercedes was spotted stranded in soft sand over half a mile down the beach.

The Brean beachwarden had raised the alarm at 7.20pm when it became clear that the vehicle was stuck, as pictured here.

The tide was quickly incoming at the time and so the Coastguards were tasked to ensure no-one was at risk while BARB was also tasked to see if they could winch it to safety.

“Once we arrived and spoke to the persons involved, it was clear that no-one was in danger, and BARB assessed the vehicle and found that due to the fast incoming tide there would not be enough time to safely retrieve the vehicle,” said a Coastguard spokesman.

“The people involved were not local to the area and had hired the car for a day trip – it was a harsh lesson to learn for this couple who were very apologetic for getting stuck and felt bad for having to call us out.”

“We are all human and can easily find ourselves in difficulty and calling us quickly can make a huge difference.”

The vehicle was covered by the evening tide and a recovery attempt will be made on Sunday.

The beach warden said that clear signs at the entrance to the beach warn mortorists to stay at the top of the beach where the sand is hard and to heed warning signs.
