Burnham and Highbridge Xmas lights contest winners receive prizes

-

Christmas may be a distant memory, but the winners of Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge’s festive lights competition have received their prizes this week.

The town’s Mayor Cllr Bill Hancock presented awards to the owners of the best decorated homes during this week’s Town Council meeting.

Town councillors Peter Clayton and Victoria Weavell visited scores of homes across the two towns before picking the winners in December.

In Burnham, first prize went to Ron Brown at 42 & 44 Broadhurst Gardens; while second place goes to Matthew Ellis of Banstead, Brent Road.

In Highbridge, Tina Bale of 54 Poplar Estate won first place while Darren Bird of 25 South Avenue was second.

The prize for the shared entry went to Mountbatten Close in Burnham-On-Sea while No 14 Mountbatten Close was highly commended.

The prize for the best-decorated shop window in Burnham, judged by Burnham Chamber of Trade, went to Flowers & Things in The High Street. Highly commended were Central Hair Studio of Abingdon Street, and The Royal British Legion in Victoria Street.

The prize for the best-decorated shop window in Highbridge, judged by Highbridge Chamber of Trade, went to Sandra’s Hairdressers; while highly commended were St Margaret’s Hospice in Market Street and Mike Jones TV Services in Church Street.

The Mayor told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There were some superb entries that brought plenty of extra colour to the towns over the festive season – thank you to everyone who took part.”
