Baby leverets found next to dead mother are rescued by wildlife carers

-

Burnham-On-Sea wildlife carers have rescued four tiny baby leverets found alone next to their dead mother.

The team at Secret World Wildlife Rescue in East Huntspill are nursing the babies back to health after their ordeal.

The charity says the animals were found by a dog walker in Gloucester. The dog picked up one of the leverets but thankfully he managed to free it successfully.

“After having a look around, the dog walker found the body of a hare in a hedge and three uninjured, but weak, leverets by the side of it,” says a spokesman.

“Concerned for their wellbeing, he brought them in to Secret World Wildlife Rescue.”

The four babies will be under the supervision of Secret World animal carer Marie Denson until they are strong and old enough to be released back into the wild.

In 2017, Secret World Wildlife Rescue looked after 174 hares and rabbits, including a number of leverets.
