Pet lamb was among five killed in barn blaze near Burnham-On-Sea

A 'heartbroken' farmer has spoken of her shock at the death of five lambs in a fire near Burnham-On-Sea at the weekend.

As first reported here by, three fire engines from Burnham-On-Sea and Taunton, along with a water carrier from Bridgwater, were called to a farm in Harp Road between Brent Knoll and Mark at 5.11am on Sunday.

The fire took the lives of five lambs - including one which was kept as a pet by farmer Victoria Dimond.

Victoria told "One of our barns went up in flames and took the lives of five of our lambs - one of the lambs was special as it was my pet."

"We lamb 600 ewes and milk 60 cows and the barn which set alight backs onto the cow shed."

"A guy who was passing by saw the flames and tried to wake us - if it wasn’t for him the barn and cow shed would have completely gone up."

"We are all so shocked. We don’t really know what happened but it is our poor orphan lambs which have suffered."

Victoria explained how her pet lamb came about: "This was my little lamby as she was too weak to stay with her mum and nearly died when born."

"I brought her into the house and dried her off with a hair drier and she lived with us for several weeks in our house, even getting up onto the sofa to watch TV."

"When we were out on farm she and the other little orphans would follow everywhere."
