Two high-flying beach kite festivals are set to be held in Berrow and Burnham-On-Sea this year.

The first event will be held on June 2nd and 3rd on Berrow beach in front of Beachside Holiday Park in Berrow, and Burnham-On-Sea Kite Festival will be held on the town’s main beach on September 8th and 9th.

Organiser Gaynor Brown told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “At the new Berrow festival, we plan to feature both power kite buggy racing and stack kite competitions on the miles of sandy beach with ample parking.”

“Above the display field we will host a programme of kiting shows and competitions along with our usual ‘learn to fly’ area. Kite traders and crafters will sit alongside food and drink facilities that will also include a picnic area and play area.”

“Saturday will kick off with the crafters, stalls, displays and Learn to Fly open from 10am. Parking is on the beach from 10.00a.m. with races and competitions from 11am.”

“The programme runs through to an illuminated kite display, with live music and a bar from 8pm on the Saturday evening. Sunday’s programme finishes at 5.30pm.”

Burnham-On-Sea Kite Festival will take place on September 8th and 9th and this will be the town’s fifth such festival on Burnham-On-Sea’s beach adjacent to The Pavilion on Beach 3.

“We’ll once again be hosting power kite exhibitions and kiting competitions. We are growing year on year towards the famous historic nine-legged lighthouse with a large number of inflatables visiting, plus the very popular ‘learn to fly’ area and instructors will be on hand. There will also be kite traders and crafters.”

“The illuminated Kite Display will start at 8pm on The Esplanade and the site will open at 10.00am on both days with races starting at 11.00am. Our busy day extends till 9pm on Saturday to include the illuminated kite displays and finishes at 5.30p.m. on Sunday evening.”

“If you wish to attend either event there are ample parking facilities available but if you join us as club kiters or racers you will need to register for a free parking permit. Overnight camping is organised for kiters and again requires booking as space is limited. Crafters and traders wishing to join us call the same number to book space 01278 238714 or see Facebook page.”
