IBM closes down technical centre on Highbridge business park

-

A major employer on a Highbridge business park is closing its premises this month.

The IBM technical centre in Hoopers Close on the town’s Isleport Business Park is shutting, it has been confirmed.

Speaking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, a spokesman for ManpowerGroup, which oversees the site, said: “Our contract with IBM at Highbridge will end this month when IBM moves the contract to another provider.”

“I can confirm that we have been able to redeploy a number of employees to other ManpowerGroup contracts and the remaining employees have found alternative employment.”

Mike Murphy, Chairman of Highbridge Chamber of Trade, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It’s disappointing to see them go, but I’m hopeful that a larger tenant will be found to move into this premises.”

“Many businsesses are expanding on the Isleport Business Park. I don’t see this as an end, but the beginning of more expansion.”

Big names such as Travelodge and Aldi are opening their new premises this year at the northern end of the business park.
