Brent Knoll Guides hold sleepover in Burnham-On-Sea Library

Brent Knoll Guides spent a night in Burnham-On-Sea Library at the weekend during a unique challenge.

Girlguiding South West has started a regional challenge called 'Night at the Library' designed to encourage sharing the love of books and reading to help girls discover the joys of their local library.

On Saturday, 28 youngsters from Brent Knoll Guides took part in a sleepover in Burnham-On-Sea library in Princess Street.

The Guides were welcomed to Burnham library by staff members Lyn and Karen, who had volunteered to stay with them overnight alongside several leaders.

The youngsters enjoyed a meal of fish and chips from the Battered Fryer take- away on the library steps outside before they ventured inside.

The group's Jane Sinnott told "It was a lovely evening and the sight of so many girls outside the library was a bit of a surprise to many people driving and walking by. Little did they know that this was just the start of our adventure."

"We then had a tour of the library, played a game where the girls changed traditional tales for their own entertaining versions, and sang campfire songs. Then everyone finally settled into their sleeping bags among the shelves of books."

"Many of the girls took a book from one of the shelves and had a little bedtime read."

"This was a fantastic opportunity for the girls and was the first library sleepover in Somerset."

"A massive thank you goes to Nathan, Lyn and Karen at Burnham-On-Sea library who made it all possible."
