greengrocer removes fruit and veg display after thefts
Burnham-On-Sea greengrocer has been forced to remove its traditional
display of fruit and veg outside its shop due to thefts and anti-social
Whites in Burnham High Street has been displaying a colourful range
of fresh produce since it opened
owners Richard and Jax Gardiner-White say "a small group of
teenagers have caused a lot concern", leading to the display
told Burnham-On-Sea.com: "On one occasion, a teenager took
an orange from the display and, when we confronted him and asked
him to pay, he threw it back at us and began mouthing off."
have also seen other fruit stolen from the display, including lemons,
when young people threw them over the roofs of the High Street shops."
are so brazen and show no respect at all. We really didn't expect
this in a seaside town like Burnham where the vast majority of people
have been so supportive of what we are doing."
we have taken the display away from outside the shop, but we hope
to bring it back soon with secure containers and extra security
cameras. We will be putting the CCTV footage of any culprits onto
social media if needed."
