Burnham-On-Sea's Mayor welcomes visitors from German twin town

Over 30 visitors from Burnham-On-Sea's German twin town have been formally welcomed to the town by the Mayor and Mayoress this week.

Bill and Frances Hancock met the group of 33 people from Fritzlar at a Mayor's reception held at The Oaktree on Monday evening (July 9th).

The group are staying with host families across Burnham-On-Sea and Highbridge in coming days, visiting several attractions.

There will be also a formal dinner at the Batch Country Hotel in Lympsham on Thursday evening.

The Fritzlar Twinning Society has been in existence for 29 years and seeks to maintain and develop Burnham and Highbridge's close relationship with Fritzlar, which is a historic town in the German region of Hessen.

Marlies Heer, leader of the Fritzlar group, told that the residents look forward to the visits every two years and always appreciate "the very warm welcome".

A German flag is flying in their honour this week on Burnham's main flag pole next to the fountain in Old Station Approach.
